Meatballs

Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster! I recalled this after the recent lecture.

It's quite interesting, and similar to the principle of Russell's Teapot. Wikipedia for it.

Apparently it (CoFSM) is a thought experiment designed by a dude called Bobby Henderson to illustrate that Intelligent Design is merely a ploy by Christians to push Creationism into the school curriculum. It claims to be a religion, parodying Christianity, whose followers are called Pastafarians (and they have alot of followers currently), and whose god is a floating spaghetti-noodle-meatball thing; the idea being that since proponents of Intelligent Design believe in a non-specific 'Intelligent Designer', this 'Intelligent Designer' can be anyone and anything.

This is their open letter to the Kansas school board during that period:

Despite their views, it's pretty amusing sometimes because it's purposely presented as extremely ridiculous. They talk in the letter about how Flying Spaghetti Monsterism should be taught in schools along with Intelligent Design etc etc and how as global temperatures increase the number of pirates decrease or something. (Thereby giving the impression that the idea of using rational figures (science) to illustrate proof of something irrational is nonsensical.)

Just something I thought was pretty interesting :/
